Radio Ghanatta International
Â
Radio Ghanatta International forms part of the communication wing of Ghanatta Foundation. It is a fully-owned Ghanaian Radio station operated and managed by Ghanaians with the permission of The Hague City Council. We have been broadcasting local programs for the Ghanaian community in The Netherlands in general and The Hague (106.8FM) in particular since 1993 and in Amsterdam (104.6 Cable and 99.4 Ether) since 2006. We are also to be heard on the worldwide web 24/7 via www.ghanatta.com. There are about 3,500 Ghanaian residents in the Royal Dutch city of The Hague and none in the community misses the programs of Radio Ghanatta which is one of the earliest community radio stations in the Netherlands. It is without doubt the only means by which the growing community gets live news updates and other developmental information from the home front.Â
Â
Programs:
We don’t only play beautiful African rhythms but a large variety of programs could be heard on Radio Ghanatta. Very popular is our Award Winning program “Let’s Speak Dutch” which is an educative program aimed at helping the Ghanaian and the other English-speaking African communities learn about Dutch norms, values and language; ‘Obaa Pa’ and ‘Youth Hour’. Other programs of interest are informative in character, like interviews with doctors, lawyers, other professionals and City Council/Government Officials.
Â
The programs are mostly in the Ghanaian ‘Akan’ language. However, important announcements and interviews from our Dutch authorities are always in the Dutch language but translated simultaneously in our local dialect.
Â
Working relationship with ‘Asempa 94.7FM’ Accra, Ghana:
Radio Ghanatta has been working with ‘Asempa FM’ of the Multi Media Group in Ghana since 2007. Radio Ghanatta came up with the program ‘Aburokyire Nkomo’ a couple of weeks after our joint decision to establish a working relationship between the 2 media houses. The two radio stations have successfully been broadcasting the program since then. The program is broadcast interactively live and offers listeners from Ghana, The Netherlands and indeed the world over the opportunity to interact directly with the presenters at both stations as the program progresses.
Â
'Aburokyire Nkomo' is a 2-hour program in which social and political issues affecting Ghanaians in diaspora are discussed in detail with representatives from the affected Ministries, government departments and resource persons from the general public taking part. Mr. Kwadwo Wireko Mpianim of Radio Ghanatta International and Mr. Opare Kumi (also of ‘Mmarima Mfa Adwene’ and ‘So Wodeε Mu Yie’ fame) of ‘Asempa’ 94.7FM are the permanent hosts of this popular program. It is a good platform for Ghanaians in diaspora to express their views on government policies that affect them.
Â
Studio:
All broadcast activities take place from our own modern digital studio. Presenters of Radio Ghanatta quite often attend radio journalism courses courtesy of the Foundation for Immigrant Broadcasters and City Broadcasting Foundation of The Hague City Council. Our team of dedicated presenters is between the ages of 18 and 64.
Â
Tune in to Radio Ghanatta International on Saturdays between 20.30 and 22.30hrs GMT via www.ghanatta.com and click on the ‘Live Radio’ template to listen to ‘Aburokyire Nkomo’. Â
